Objectives

Recognise, represent and reflect the diversity of professional and managerial knowledge, skills and interests involved in the management of local authority property and in the procurement and provision of professional property management and construction-related services for local authorities, by:
  • Acting as a forum for discussion on all matters affecting local government property;
  • Co-ordinating the views and actions of the different professions and bodies involved in local authority property; and
  • Providing a consolidated response to general or common issues affecting local authority property to the Government and other bodies.
Promote the application of sound principles and best practice in property management, also develop and co-ordinate the effective management of local authority property and of property services in the interests of the community and local government generally.

Be recognised as the body representing property from government departments, professional institutions and other bodies as appropriate.

The FPS aims to achieve these objectives by:
  • Helping to preserve and develop the identity and effectiveness of the constituent property societies and ensure that each society is fully informed on relevant national policy issues and developments;
  • Encouraging individual societies to maintain and strengthen their own relationships with professional institutions and other national bodies;
  • Give advice and make representations to any association of local authorities, to government departments, to professional institutions and to other bodies as appropriate;
  • Holding meetings for the purpose of:
    • Promoting and developing the professional knowledge and skills of members;
    • Discussing issues of procedure and practice;
    • Collecting, analysing and distributing property-related information;
    • Exchanging knowledge and opinion on matters of professional interest;
  • Encouraging the participation of all members of FPS in seminars and conferences;
  • By sponsoring and co-ordinating research and development throughout the membership of FPS.
The FPS will support these objectives and aims by:
  • Maintaining a database of property representatives from all classifications of local authorities;
  • Taking appropriate action from time to time in support of the Federation's objectives, its membership and sound property management in local authorities.
